for lovers of
coffee & culture
we’re the deans
“Haitian inspired” means we brew coffee beans from Haiti, create house syrups inspired by Haitian cuisine, and name our drinks in Haitian Creole. “Haitian inspired” also means that friendship, grit, and creativity define much of what we do at Bonhomie Coffee.
Michelle worked as a barista in Atlanta. It was a stint cut short by her MBA but the craft and the community stuck with her. Though a corporate marketing career was in her future, she knew the coffee industry also had a place. She left Atlanta with her now wife Victoria Dean, and a fixation on the word “Bonhomie”. It means “cheerful friendliness” but looks like “Good Homie”, and sounds like “Bon Zanmi" which means good friend in Haitian Creole.
Many years later, when Haitian inspired cafe drinks started taking over their Seattle kitchen, friends and strangers on the internet wanted to get in on the action. We began brewing Haitian coffee and developing drinks and flavors inspired by kremas, chokola, popular Haitian spices, and kafe ak lèt. We turned this excitement into Bonhomie Coffee Bar, a space for lovers of coffee and culture to gather with bon moun.
PROUDLY A BLACK, QUEER, & WOMAN OWNED COFFEE BAR
SOME OF OUR QUIRKS
We’re mobile (but not just a pop-up)
We are a fully licensed mobile espresso bar. If you couldn’t see our wheels, you might not know it. We love having long-term residencies with collaborative partners in Seattle. We also do our fair share of corporate and private events. In each situation, we build a cafe at our destination
OATMILK IS STANDARD (And our menu is plant-based)
If you stop by our shop, all of our drinks are made with oatmilk because we like it. In fact, all current menu items are plant-based. So oat isn’t extra. For private events, we’ll bring whatever milk a client requests.
WE REDIRECT TIP TO A CAUSE
We think it is our responsibility, not our customers, to provide our team with consistent and reliable wages. Tipping isn’t traditionally a Haitian custom. We think we’ve priced our offerings fairly. We also recognize that some customers are generous, so any tip they want to leave will be donated to a Haiti centered organization. This year, we’re donating all tip to P4H Global.
